Tansi, my name is Vivian Noskey. Paula Garrison and I have started The Good Life (Miyo-Pimatisiwin) Reunification Homes a year ago. Our aim is to reunite children in care and their families, or children at risk of being apprehended.
Many times, families are separated due to issues that are troubling their family. Child & Family Services protect children, and they take children into care if the children are not being taken care of and then the family breaks down even more from the separation. To reduce trauma, it is in the best interest of the children that we keep the family together.
Our hope is to bring the children and their family into one of our Good Life homes in Edmonton and work with the family and deal with the issues that are troubling their lives, while keeping close watch on the children.
At Good Life homes we keep the family together and help the family to live healthier lives and make better choices and once they have achieved this, then they are ready to go home with supports in place. We will work closely with Child & Family Services and community resources to achieve this. We will do follow-up with our clients at the 30-day and 90-day period once they leave our program and transition back into the community.
Our Good Life homes are closely monitored. We operate from a First Nations perspective. We service our people with respect and dignity. Our staff are trained individuals who are in the house to help the family address the problem areas for the family. We empower the family to help themselves. We will also help the family to get medical treatment for the health and well-being of the total family unit. A monthly report will be provided to each respective agency.
Hiy-Hiy,                                                                                (August 31, 2022)
